I am a B+ student

I am a B+ student

I am a B+ student. I am pretty smart, pretty fit, and generally ahead of the curve. If I am world class in anything, it is that I am pretty good at a large number of things.

And I'm beginning to realize that I kind of like that.

I'm certain that almost everyone can look at their life and find places to improve; but most "self improvement" (at least as it's sold to us) is All or Nothing.

If you write a book, it better be a NYT best seller.

Start a business? You better sell it in three years for a billion dollars.

Want to learn or get in shape or get healthier? It better become your entire Identity.

I don't agree with this. I have a lot of interests. Why on Earth should I have to choose one, and throw the others away?

I have a family. I have work that I enjoy. I take vacations.

Any life "improvement" that forces me to give up everything I enjoy so that I can be the absolute best in the world, is not going to be sustainable.

I have taken Modafinil and worked through the night nonstop. I have tried many grey market supplements, with varying results. The current world that we live in is very different from the one we are biologically designed for; and I do believe that some adjustments need to be made in order to thrive in it.

But I think small changes last longer. Cut back on sugar, but have a slice of birthday cake. Find extra ways to earn, but don't ignore your family. Learn a new skill to learn the new skill, not to compete.

I don't want to sacrifice everything else so that I can be the very best at ONE thing.

Maybe you disagree with me. Maybe "all or nothing" is wired into your genes. Best of luck to you.

But my life that is filled with "pretty good" is beginning to feel extraordinary to me.

Thanks for reading.
